It’s entirely thanks to the hard work and dedication of our many volunteers that AAHS has been able to make such a positive impact in our community! If you love Williamson County and have a passion for history, preservation, and community service, then come volunteer with us! Simply fill out the volunteer form below and our volunteer coordinator will contact you.  The following is a list of our current volunteer opportunities:

Help at Events
• We have events throughout the year and need volunteers to help us make them a success.
o Black Tie Gala
o Juneteenth Celebration
o Murdic Scholarship Prom
o Porch Talks
o Educational Events

Clerical/Administrative Duties
• Help Board President and Executive Director with office duties

Photographer
• Take photographs at AAHS events

Videographer
• Help with scheduling and working with MTSU & city in videoing of the oral history interviews of residents who share their stories.
• Record certain AAHS events (i.e. Porch Talks)

Website/IT/Social Media
• Manage website
• Help keep the AAHS Facebook, Instagram and other social media up to date

Greeter/Host at McLemore House Museum
• Welcome visitors to this historic home

Tour Guide at the McLemore House Museum
• Help conduct tours at the McLemore House

Membership Committee or Coordinator
• Manage the membership program as the Membership Coordinator
• Assist in organizing and strengthening the membership program

Children’s Outreach Committee or Coordinator
• Coordinate or assist with programing of children’s events related to African American history, heritage, achievements, and people in Williamson County

Historical
• Work with historical committee and historians on research of African American pioneer families and other African American history

Church Committee
• Lead the relationship building with African American churches and other churches. Identify a point person at each church to communicate with the committee chair and keep the lines of communication open between AAHS and the churches.
• Help the church committee make calls and invite various churches to participate in events with AAHS

Fundraising
• Work with fundraising committee to find programs for raising funds and solicit sponsors for AAHS events

Grant Writing
• Solicit funds through writing grants

Museum Inventory & Cataloging
• Develop a database for cataloging existing artifacts at the McLemore and Merrill-Williams Houses along with a history of their donors

Building & Grounds
• Help Building and Grounds Committee with upkeep of McLemore and Merrill-Williams Houses
